Talking Photos: Happy Feast to Velsaokars (Kuttallkars, Candoikars etc) Feast of Our Lady of Assumption, Velsao-Goa.
On 14th August I never missed this event. About 7kms were covered not by train or by bus or car or by motor bike or bicycle. I walked along the railways tracks . I was there at least 30 minutes before the mass yet missed the event several times. How? Well, they used to raise OL up into the heaven (see pics below) long before the devotees arrive at the church. This was due to the infighting amongst the church various committee members. Those youngsters from Velsao, please ask with your elders if this was true. On about three occasions/years I had to go back disappointed without seeing ascending of Our Lady. And I was about 7-9. This is the little heaven erected on the 14th August on which day OL shown ascending to Heaven (Our Lady is also seen) http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk1/2761989775/ Internal of the church is also seen Underneath, there is an opening for the people/members and OL to pass through. 4 or 5 members on the ground will lift the OL until the 4 people on the top (first layer) catch hold of OL. They will then lift or pass on to the next higher layer and so on (there are about 5 layers).
