Tino de Sa writes that it happened today, the Feast Day of St Catherine, in
1510, thatAlbuqerque defeated Adil Shah of Bijapur on the Mandovi River, to
seize Goa from him.   Timoja had invited Portugal and then assisted in running
Goa until he fell out with localHindu leaders and returned to Vijaynagar
Honavar.   He was poisoned, a victim of palace intrigues and his family
returned to Majorda, where descendants continue to live.   The grateful
Portuguese named a new cathedral for Saint Catherine.
