Tanisi Kirtani also bagged the double crown, lifting the mini-cadets and cadet girls crowns. Kirtani and Wesley were the only two to bag double crowns. It is admirable that both have shown excellent consistency. VTTA’s Alisha Alfonso (PCCE, Verna) bagged her second successive women’s title. She won a thrilling final which went the full distance and was by far the match of the day. Alisha lost the first set as her opponent Nyssa played a tactical game using deep ‘phantom’ pushes into Alisha’s extreme forehand corner, moving and unsettling her. Having lost the first game in a jiffy, Alisha switched tactics, serving long into the backhand corner and then attacking the centre with slow looping topspin drives, which unsettled her opponent and continued the pressure in the fifth game to confirm her standing as the top woman’s player in the State. Campal proved unlucky for Panjim’s seeded Roshni Gopani, who went down rather tamely to Kefira Rodrigues and Devika Sood respectively in the sub-junior and junior girls’ events. Tejas Shevde lost the junior finals to Arjun Sood 3-0, but came back strongly to subdue Krishal P. D’Silva. Diljeet Velingkar once again proved too hot to handle for Agnelo Naik who went down 4-1, in the men’s singles final. Results of finals: Mini-cadet girls – Tanisi Kirtani bt.
