Today while Goa’s Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza celebrates his birthday sorrowing lies the state of his Mapusa constituency. For over three years the roads in Mapusa have been languishing in an extremely despicable state and very accident prone. To add to the woes of the much neglected city, with no infrastructure in place, huge concrete buildings have been mushrooming all over.
Despite being the Deputy Chief Minister, the local MLA has miserably failed to nurse his constituency with even the basics. We have to commend Vijai Sardesai, Rohan Khaunte and Naresh Sawal who despite being independent MLAs and in the Opposition have been able to ensure that their constituencies are reasonably habitable. Francis D’Souza is no doubt a thorough gentleman, but he seems to have taken his people for granted on account of the huge margins by which he has repeatedly been elected. Ironically, Manohar Parrikar , the Ward boy of those now famed surgical strikes also hails from Mapusa but has too been a mere spectator to the utter travails of the local residents. In a democracy, people get the government they deserve. In the run up to the ensuing 2017 Assembly elections the people of Mapusa too would have to wake up from their slumber and ponder over their future.
