GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS 13 January, 2005 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: "Choddxe ami aslelean dhadoxi nam, karann amkam anink zaitench zai." (Most of us are not content with our lot because we want a lot more.) "domnic fernandes" [EMAIL PROTECTED] RAVE RAGE CONSUMES SCHOOLS, HOMES, ELDERLY AND SICK: Imagine doors, windows and beds rattling, a booming non-stop reverberation, from what is like a combination of a thousand sounds, all through the night. Combine that with the wailing of infants, the cries of children and moans from shattered senior citizens. What could generate such a scary scenario? Just the 'famed' Rave parties at Anjuna. The type that, debatably, are held nowhere else in the world. Indeed, they happen only in Anjuna in 'sussegad' Goa. And to make matters worse, the spots chosen for the mind-blowing revelry lie cheek-by-jowl to residential areas. The sound wave generated by these 'acid' parties, at most times engulfs the neighbouring villages of Assagao-Badem, Siolim, Parra and Arpora. The two schools in Anjuna are constantly at the receiving end. The day after a night party is held, children come to school with droopy eyes and fall asleep in class, a teacher say. The steady increase in the drop-out rate is squarely blamed on the rave parties. (GT) CM ADMITS POLICE CONNECTION: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on January 12 reiterated that it he is given specific information, rave parties dealing in drugs would be raided and admitted that "there is some linkage with the police." Responding to a statement made by the Opposition Leader Pratapsing Rane that Goa was getting a bad name due to paedophilia and related crimes, the chief minister said the government is determined to clamp down on drugs trafficking and paedophilia...The Chief Minister said the paedophilia dimension is being unnecessarily blown out of proportion. (NT) UGDP: SCHOOLS NOT TO EXHIBIT VCD TILL CORRECTED: While the issue of the controversial VCD on Goa's Freedom struggle figured in the Goa Assembly for the first time on January 12, the UGDP has been assured by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar that all schools will be instructed not to exhibit the film till they received a corrected version. (GT) FRESH TENDERS FOR REMOVAL OF "RIVER PRINCESS": The Minister for Environment, Mr Atanasio Monserrate, in a written reply to a question from the Calangute MLA, Mr Agnelo Fernandes, informed the House that the coastline at Sinquerim-Candolim is changing due to the "River Princess" vessel, stranded off the coastline. "Due to additional accretion of sand around the vessel, the width of the beach at its location is about 100 mts and as such it is approximately 25 mts more than the width of the adjoining beach area," the reply says. The latest observation made through the NIO on December 28, 2004, shows that besides the above phenomenon, no change has been observed in the High Water Line. The answer also says that the government has already invited fresh tenders for removal of the said vessel under the Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) act, 2001.
