The conference which was held in Goa on August 11 - 12, 2007 was an attempt to create a platform for people from all industry sectors to solve their talent retention problems. Eminent speakers at the conference included Derrick Barton, CEO, Centre for Talent Research (USA), Jo Verde, Senior Director, JeMM Consultants (Montreal), Mr. E Balaji, COO, Ma Foi Management Consultants, and Ms Lekha Sista, VP, HR & Talent Management, Sum Total Systems Inc among others. Castalia was conceptualized in November 2006, when, after an industry survey about the most relevant HR issue affecting industries, it was clearly established that no matter what the size of the organization or what business one is in, attrition is a major concern for all in terms of costs and loss of knowledge. The conference focused on solutions to the problem presented quantitatively in light of successful and unsuccessful ideas and intense discussions The speaker profile of the conference included CEOs, COOs and HR heads of major multinationals across all industry sectors. The delegate profile included more then hundred attendees from general HR, recruitment, HR heads of small and medium enterprises, and other middle and senior management executives. Speaking on the occasion, Amrita Sharma, the student spearheading the organizing committee added, "We are extremely happy with the support Castalia has received from the industry. Attrition is a major concern in the corporate sector today. The opinions and suggestions thrown up during this 2 day conference has shed some light on issue and ways in which it can be contained". Says Derrick Barton, CEO, Centre for Talent Research, USA, "Managers need to make a difference in their organizations. As a core practice, they should work on engaging and retaining one person at a time, so as to make a difference". Speaking on the role of HR today, Jo Verde, Senior Director, JeMM Consultants (Montreal), stated "HR is not fluff, it is a critical business process involving three critical areas; job, leader, & organization. Additionally, any system you put in place is as good as the people who use that system and are administering it. One needs to be ready to learn what to do, and be ready to learn what not to do" Castalia has received tremendous support from the industry since its conception. It has Human Capital Institute as its Knowledge Partner and Naukri.com as its online media partner. It also has Infosys, SAP Labs, Oriental Insurance, Sum Total Systems, Deloitte, Adrenalin e-Systems and many others as it sponsors. - End - About Goa Institute of Management Fr.
