To offer a better experience to our users, we wanted to detect the downtime to disable some functionalities of our app before the point of failure to write in the DataStore.
As the Scheduled Maintenance notification email specified that "During this scheduled maintenance, memcache will also be disabled.", we followed the instruction on the bottom of this page: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/howto/maintenance.html Isn't the StrictErrorHandler() an accurate way to detect the downtime anymore?
