Yes, I agree, but we are on 1 week sprints, so often we only have
perhaps 12-48 hrs heads up on a newly required index.

Perhaps a good thing to add to the System Status page (http://
code.google.com/status/appengine) would be the time to get a new index
through the wait queue.

I think it may be possible to push a new version of an application to get
indexes built ahead of when you need them, as all versions use the same
datastore.
