I think you'd have to regularly update your code every 6 months or so
to keep up with changes Google is making since it's still a new
service and changing rapidly.

I don't think you can trust anything for that long
You would be better of with a Facebook account for your family, timeline
would suit your needs, but then again Facebook makes changes faster than
GAE, so it would be a no-go either
