GWT will compile to Javascript. You can't mix different UI frameworks
with GWT, that's it.

I'm considering to use Google App Engine as the platform of a new
application that will have to handle several image transformations such as
blur, sepia, gray scale etc. GAE's Image API seems nice but very limited. As
far as I know, GAE does not support Java 2D or Java Advanced Imaging.

Did you finally find out what is the problem?
I 'm currently having the same issue and the only way around I found is to
convert the object into a String and use the
TaskOptions.Builder.payload(String) method when scheduling the task.
