In fact the language is not the core. What the GCJ want is just the result Set from the Input Set according to the problem and your process. google has probably said that your compiler (or calculator, even paper and pen) should be gotten for free, and they can use the free compiler to get the same

Heh. Regarding major contests like TC, ACM and last year's code jam. The majority of people use C++ in all phases of the tournaments. Not only that, but the percentage of people using C++ always seems to grow as contestants get eliminated. Not to say this is a reason to switch to C+ +. Just sayin

I don't think registration has started. The schedule matches with previous year schedule and I think they haven't updated any pages. http://code.google.com/codejam/contest/registration I visited this but it just asks me to login and no forms to fill nothing. I don't think this is a registration.

I think that C++ the worst language actually that can be chosen for the contest. If you are good in any of these languages use them Pyton , Ruby , Groovy, C# and sure the most suitable JAVA. If you dont know anything about them , use pure C IDE , i prefer eclipse for C and JAVA/Groovy C++

You don't need any IDE at all - all you need is vim (or some other syntax highlighting text editor, for those not so geekily inclined) and your favourite C++ compiler (I'd use g++). As for a better language - just whatever it's easiest for you to work with. Languages such as Haskell and Python are
