In fact the language is not the core. What the GCJ want is just the
result Set from the Input Set according to the problem and your
process. google has probably said that your compiler (or calculator,
even paper and pen) should be gotten for free, and they can use the
free compiler to get the same
Hi everyone,
Is PHP a valid programing language to enter the CodeJam? I'd really
like to participate but my skill in Java, C++ and C# is a bit surty
since i've been working only with PHP for quite some time.

I just didn't know that VS 2003 didn't overrun... you have to turn on an
option to enable buffer overrun. One of my answers was wrong because the
compiler cycled through the int range... if I had an overrun, I could fix
the problem easily... this year I'll try Python.

It is just a windows-only market drug so that you remain coding stuff
only for windows. If you like the idea of falling on those schemes, go
ahead. Though never underestimate the real cost of these things,
yeah, what's more, MS have got Anders Hejlsberg! And the Express
edition must be for the purpose of competing with other popular FOSS
compilers.

Or languages. I tend to use one language if I think that writing-time
is more important than running-time, and a different language if I
think it is the other way round. Of course when I think neither time
is important, there's no telling what language I will use.

rounds. If you're just getting started, I

Regarding major contests like TC, ACM and last year's code jam. The
majority of people use C++ in all phases of the tournaments. Not only
that, but the percentage of people using C++ always seems to grow as
contestants get eliminated. Not to say this is a reason to switch to C+
+. Just sayin

You don't need any IDE at all - all you need is vim (or some other syntax
highlighting text editor, for those not so geekily inclined) and your
favourite C++ compiler (I'd use g++).
As for a better language - just whatever it's easiest for you to work with.

I suggest Python, performance is not important in this case, and Python
allow you to solve the problems easier and with a lot of simplicity, without
writing a lot of code.

I think google just keeps low-keying about the GCJ2009, as it says
that it's just for fun. When the first round begin, players should be
able to read the question, download the Input Sets and upload the
Submission at that time.

You'll need to submit output text-file for every corresponding input
file, so it doesn't matter which language or IDE you use. You can even
calculate the answers by hand on paper :)
