Climate change is not one subject but a number of interwoven themes that together create an overall picture. Breaking down those themes and understanding and interpreting those facts can be overwhelming. Prior to winning the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, Al Gore presented a documentary film, An Inconvenient Truth, a compelling look at the state of the climate crisis, a true planetary emergency. The slide presentation is based on the academy award winning documentary. There are four central scientific hypotheses which underlie the presentation: global average temperatures have been rising significantly over the past years and are likely to continue to rise; this is mainly due to human-made emissions of greenhouse gases; if unchecked, this will have significant adverse effects on the world and its populations; and there are measures which individuals, business and governments can take thatwill help to reduce climate change or mitigate its effects. An Inconvenient Truth is a rich and challenging resource for students in: Geography, Health, Science, English, Media Studies, Information Technology, Environmental Studies, Citizenship and Values Education.
