Climate Change Media Partnership PANOS, Internews and the International
Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) are organizing the Climate
Change Media Partnership to support “developing-country journalists to report
on climate change, and creates an exciting opportunity for editors to gain
coverage of an international summit through their reporters.” The programme has
supported more than 100 journalists from 42 developing countries since its
inception in 2007. One of the highlights of the programme is the attendance at
the annual United Nations Climate Change Summit. The programme has fellowships
for selected applicants. The fellowships run for a period of nine months
starting from July 2010 providing direct access to different stakeholders such
as scientists, civil society groups, indigenous peoples etc. they will also be
able to attend the UN climate change negotiations to be held in Cancun, Mexico
from 29 November to 10 December
2010. “Fellows will spend an intensive two weeks of reporting on the
negotiations and taking part in the CCMP programme of editorial and thematic
mentoring and training. The Climate Change Media Partnership will provide
travel, travel insurance, accommodation and a daily subsistence expense
allowance to the journalists selected.”To be considered for a fellowship the
applicant must:Be a regular working journalist in the print, radio, electronic
or television media.Live and work in a developing country in Asia,
Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America or the Middle East.Have a
valid passport that will not expire before June 2011.Have knowledge and
interest in climate change and development.Have the support of your media house
and editor to participate in the fellowship and report from the UN climate
change summit.Be able to participate in a rigorous programme throughout the
period.Have confidence and competence in the English
language, even if you are working for a non-English media and audience. The UN
climate change summits are conducted almost entirely in English and the CCMP

conducting interviews and taking part in discussions in English and have the
confidence to work with the CCMP editors in English. If shortlisted, be

put time into the fellowship throughout its duration such as reading briefing
