Currently, g.remove supports g.remove vect pattern=map1,map2. Pattern can
take multiple map names separated by a comma. You don't have to invent a
wildcard or regex pattern for deleting a couple maps. g.mremove wouldn't
have replaced g.remove without this feature.

I'm currently missing the ppa:grass-devel for trusty (14.04 LTS) ... it
doesn't seem to work.
The ppa can be added to the list of repositories (according to [1], but
apt-get update throws some 404s. I checked [2] and found out that a

Thanks for the explanation Glynn. So this is a byproduct of changes for other
goals. It is good to learn that a work around can be simply re-odering the
options. This makes it easier to maintain chaining between scripts or calling
modules from other programs. This behavior is still a potential
