I agree with Moritz’s concern. This is a GRASS strongpoint and a failing of most other GIS packages. Ironically, with other packages like Arc and QGIS, users *think* they know what they are doing but they don’t. With GRASS they realize that they don’t know what they are doing before they start :

Beginners perhaps need to think about projections at the outset more so than advanced users. But I don’t think a ‘beginner’ and ‘advanced’ user version of the interface is a good idea. If we work out a way to simplify and/or streamline starting GRASS, it should just be the way the program works
