There are checks in lib/cairodriver/Graph.c for this. You should get an
error message if cairo lacks support for a specific format, though.

Antialiasing is enabled by default for bitmap formats. There is
currently no way of disabling this.

Granted, is hard to predict what will happen in the future, but at this
point, I wouldn't entirely dismiss Cairo as an option.
