Was that a fresh checkout, or update, or was it copied from somewhere?
I just did an update and nothing was deleted.

I haven't had time to recompile GRASS for several weeks. But I've got
a predoc researcher in my lab now who has compiled GRASS in the past
and is trying to do it again.
