Markus, Thank you. The errors I reported were not being able to compile lidar html files which seemed to me to be independent of the spatial libraries. Taking your advice, I recompiled and re-installed proj, gdal, geos, libLAS, laszip, blas/lapack (and OpenBLAS but the system cannot find it), etc. Surprisingly (to me) this did the trick. While I don't understand the relationship of these libraries to the build error I accept that there is such a relationship.
