I confirm you that the automatic migration of the RC4 works fine and each
old users have reader role (basic role), but I still can't change user role.
Old credentials works and users access are OK
I'll wait the final release as Kay said for more tests.

the automatic migration of legacy user accounts to the new scheme has been
added in Graylog 1.2.0-rc.3. I'd recommend upgrading to Graylog 1.2.0-rc.4
in your case to verify that the problem has been solved.
