Because trying to access floppies with no disk in the drive cause
irritating noises, slowdowns, hangs or maybe even error messages?
It might be that changes elsewhere in the code
Thanks - I didn't realize there was a new alternative to gtk_file_selection
(I based this originally on info from the tutorial which presumably must've
been written before the gtk_file_chooser came along). Anyway
gtk_file_chooser works fine.

Actually, I just noticed that the floppy drive is not showing up either. So
the gtk_file_selection is apparently displaying only the hard drives (and
mapped hard drives), but not removable media.

Hi,
I have a Windows app built with GTK 2.8.10, and in it I'm using a
gtk_file_selection to open a file. My problem is that in that
gtk_file_selection dialog a USB memory device (installed in Windows as the
F: drive) is not showing up.
Also installed on the Windows PC I have Ethereal 0.
I use the gtk_file_selection_new() function to create a file selection.
By selecting a file and pressing the OK button everything runs fine.
However, by selecting a file with a double click, the filename is send
to my function but causes trouble (deadlock, I must kill the whole
program...)

Some thoughts (after looking at the Screen shot):
1. Don't use abbreviations like: MkDi
I did one for my app, about 2 years ago:

This one is backwards-compatible with the current filesel (binary as
well as source), but adds history, files-of-type, auto suffix mangling,
directory as well as filename completion, favorite

I'm afraid I'm not, I'm just a guy that got fed up with the general
crappiness of the original widget (together with the rest of SigUnix @
UIUC). and didn't learn of the othe

Can I assume you're the maintainer of the original file selection
widget? Perhaps the people authoring the advanced_gtkfilesel and
yourself could get together rather than have a "let the best dialog
win". The work they've done so far is certainly impressive and still
very much similar to the origi

Hi,
I am a unix/linux developer and a user since 5 years. I have always
wondered while why the file selection widget in GTK is so primitive.
People trying to migrate from windows have often complained about this
very thing. There is no option to set a filter (like *.txt). And
there are no icon
