That's how I've always done it Henry. Gotta tel you though, next time I
might just seal that hole and forget about the silly hose. I've never
had fuel spillage in there.

You were correct, my mystery hose has been reconnected to the steering
tube boot.
Actually the pic I found in the Steering Head Inspection section shows
it clearer.
Anyway, problem solved.

The hose probably comes from the steering tube rubber gator.
It connects at the top , under yoke.
See page 3-35 top picture , off to the right of the air box , at the
front of the air box.
