After having thought I'd seen every Henry James film adaptation in
existence, I just ran across a "new" one--a 1998 PBS Pictures film of
"The American," starring Matthew Modine, Diana Rigg, and others. They
took a few liberties with the novel, but it's a good film. It's set in
the later 1860s
Another PBS/BBC Mystery production set in the mid-late 1860's is "Uncle
Silas" with Peter O'Toole.
Not too many on-screen stuff is set in the mid-late 1860's or 1884-5,
probably because both of these sets of years during the rule of the
bustle/back fullness dress cycle are seen as visually unattra

on Amazon, there are a ton of films with "American" in the title, but it
is there. You could try looking for the stars' names.
