There's a nice on-line display of Holbein's English work at
http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/exhibitions/holbein/default.shtm . Most of the
pictures of women are already well-known but some of the men (and their
clothes) were new to me. There are also a number of studies of jewelry.

I just got the copies of "Fashion" by the Kyoto Costume Museum, from
Barnes & Noble.com, and I was surprised to find that they are really
hardcover, not the
not-quite-soft-cover (not sure what the binding was called) that I got
when the book first came out.

Bjarne,
My interests pretty much begin with late Roman and stop with 1600 or
slightly later, so that's what I look for. I see a lot of things for later
(18th century is your time?) . I'll try to remember to pass them on also. I
think that I just assumed that you were already more aware of them

I have seen at least two "Italian" dresses that look as if they have
different colored gores from the rest of the dress but not in the style that

Can you point me in the direction of those Italian
again, the more people in our costuming community know about this, the
better the chances are that we get the dress back to Deborah.

Bjarne,
I have to agree about Philip Mansell's book, but for different reasons. I got
it out of our School of Textile library (thankfully) and could check it out
before buying it - which I won't do. I am very disappointed with the text (the
writing style itself), the structure, and the researc
