[h-cost] Tudor sleeves again (sort of)

2007-08-28 Thread Maureen Conklin
I am working on a wedding gown with raglan sleeves; the neckline looks like some of the examples cited within the past week. So, I'm wondering what to do when you love the look, but are worried about the sleeves sliding too far off the shoulders. Would you narrow the top of the sleeve (that makes

Thank you. I still can't decide if the sleeves are really falling down, or if it just feels that way. :) Any other suggestions are welcome, too. Thanks. ~ M. Original Message Follows From: Beteena Paradise [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: Historical Costume [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Historical

[h-cost] leine question

2007-07-09 Thread Maureen Conklin
Hi everyone, I'm making my first attempt at 16th century Irish dress. Can anyone tell me how big the wrist openings on a leine are supposed to be? I don't want to do the phony drawstring-on-top sleeves, but I'd like to be able to roll them up if I need to (it's a hot-weather event). Is a

My persona is Irish. I'll be doing body puppeteering at a Renaissance faire, so I don't think any patrons (except SCA folks) are going to notice or care if I have drawstrings at my wrists. Honestly, I just don't want to shell out for a pattern on top of the material I've already bought; I'm not

Side note, the neckline was not drawstringed. I would not rule out drawstring totally as there may have been a 1% chance of their existance. Yeah, I'm planning to pleat the neckline into a plain bias band, as in the Italian chemise instructions at festiveattyre.com. I know it's probably not the
