Hiya,
I am also working on a Tudor gown where I was also planning on doing a rolled
pleat. I did my kirtle in a simple rolled pleat, and I know what you mean by it
dropping straight from the waistline. I haven't noticed the horizontal
wrinkling, as the pleats are in the back, and I can't s
Hiya,
You are thinking along the same thoughts as me on the shaping to achieve the
rolled look without the horizontal pull, I can't wait to see finished
pictures, so few people do this time period!
As for the stuffing and possible ridge line, if you allow for the most
stuffing at the point
A feature common to a lot of the dresses in my era/area is a row of pleats
falling from the waist at the back (but not the front or sides). I've been
using rolled pleats taken in a rectangular piece of fabric for this, and
they do a generally good jpb of giving the right look. But I've become
line info, and couldn't find the base. Can you offer
guidance?

I'd say the major point was conspicuous consumption. I think they are
very impressive looking especialy the ones where the pleats are
alternating colors and sometimes have two colors stacked on top of each
other. I am thinking mostly of the miliatary bases in this case, but I
think I remember
This is fascinating -- thank you! It seems rather impractical, though -- does
it provide extra warmth, perhaps, having all that extra fabric? Or was it just
one more conspicuous consumption thing, do you suppose? I can certainly see
how the men would appreciate looking that much more bulked-u

Would someone please be so kind as to provide a thumbnail description of either
or both "organ pipe pleating" or "rolled pleating," or post an informative link
or two? I can't even begin to picture what this might be...
Thanks!

I'm not sure if you want organ pipe pleating or rolled pleats
documentation, but if it is the former, the Metropolitan Museum of Art
has a military base which is organ pipe pleated (Early 16th century).
Blanche Paynes "History of Costume" has a discussion and a pattern for
it. I've spent some
