I made a corded corset (in fact, there used to be a picture of me on the website you referenced) using hemp cord and cotton duck, which is a type of canvas, and I don't remember that the cords shrank the pattern all that much. The only bad thing was that the first time I washed it, it smelled like ship rigging for a week!
