Cricket Australia and ABC Radio continue 76-year relationship

Cricket Australia and ABC Radio have renewed their 76-year relationship until
the end of the 2013-14 season, substantially expanding their commitment to
cricket broadcasting for both international and domestic cricket.

The new agreement will see exclusive ball-by-ball coverage of international
Test and one-day cricket, interstate one-day and Twenty20 games on either ABC
Local Radio, ABC Grandstand Digital Radio or online, at either
abc.net.au/grandstand or cricket.com.au.

Sheffield Shield fans will receive regular updates throughout each day, plus
interviews will be available at the ABC Grandstand website at the end of each
day’s play.

ABC Managing Director Mark Scott said the new agreement cements the
relationship and ensures all Australians have access to ABC cricket commentary
on a platform of their choice.

“The ABC has a long tradition of cricket broadcast commentary and innovation.
We are delighted this new agreement allows us to utilise new technologies,
including digital radio, to deliver the most comprehensive coverage of cricket
yet,” said Mr Scott.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said the new
agreement was a great result for cricket fans in Australia.
“ABC Radio and its broadcast of cricket is an institution in Australia and we
are thrilled to continue our partnership with them in a continually expanding
fashion,” Mr Sutherland said.

“Ball-by-ball coverage of all international, Ford Ranger Cup and KFC Big Bash
cricket and regular updates from the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield is a wonderful
result for all of those cricket fans throughout the cities, towns and coastal
regions throughout Australia. Cricket Australia is committed to taking the game
to as many Australians as possible and this new agreement will help us do that.”

To listen to the first test against the West Indies live from Brisbane tune to
the ABC Grandstand commentary team, led by Jim Maxwell and Glenn Mitchell,
today from 10.00am Brisbane time.
