** CHINA. CNR1 jammers morning of May 16:
18870, May 16 at 1243, CNR1 jammer, good-very good and // 11785. Aoki shows
18870 as a 100-watt Sound of Hope, Taiwan relay of RFA at 00-14
16100, May 16 at 1250, CNR1 jammer, good until 1300* timesignal
14980, May 16 at 1253, CNR1 jammer, very poor; none in 17s
13880, May 16 at 1256, JBA signal, not certain if //
13830, May 16 at 1256, CNR1 jammer, very poor; none in the 12s
18990, 18980: see TIBET [non]
16100, May 16 at 1347, CNR1 jammer, now JBA and no others found in the 12s,
13s, 14s or 15s (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6165, May 16 at 0101, no signal yet from RHC English, tho it`s started
on 6000; by 0106 recheck, 6165 has come on.
12010, May 16 at 1220, RHC modulation is breaking up but more or less readable
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [non]. 7210-LSB, May 16 at 1152, first check in a long time for
anti-Castro exile Nelson Roig, N1NR, in Pennsylvania, and there he is on his
favorite morning frequency, about traveling to Cuba, and apparently axually
contacting dentroCubans such as CO8AP at 1153, but with JBA signal. I suspect
N1NR is holding forth here just about every morning (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** CYPRUS. 19678-19702, May 16 at 1351 UT, OTH radar pulsing, presumed from
here, poor signal, but hardly anything else audible on 19 MHz band (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDIA [and non]. 13695, May 16 at 1226, good signal with flutter, but just
barely modulated, or is it CCI beneath an open carrier? then some S Asian vocal
music past 1231, but off at 1255 check. HFCC shows AIR Bengaluru at 1100-1245
in Tamil & Telugu, but also RFI Issoudun at 12-13 in French (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** IRAN. 21470, May 16 at 1249, poor signal in Chinese, but not // CNR1
jammers; off at 1252 check. Aoki shows it`s VIRI in Chinese, 1150-1250, 500 kW,
76 degrees from Sirjan. Surprised to hear anything but BBC on this frequency,
but it`s not on until 1400 (Sat 1300) in Somali via UAE now, no English. Spain,
Saudi, even Kuwait 13m signals have been very poor lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN. 8785-USB, May 16 at 1140, again the Gyogyo station in Japanese, not
so good as May 13 and with ACI from another SSB 2 or 3 kHz on the low side.
Still waiting for further info on exactly what this is (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3905, May 16 at 1147, carrier here but hardly any
modulation; yet stronger than 3925 Japan, which is never so in the winter; on
90m, only 3205 with a JBA carrier. Before 1200 I prefer to monitor SOLOMON
ISLANDS instead, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, May 16 at 0058, R. Chaski carrier, until off at 0111:19.5* which
is 11.5 seconds later than two nights ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)
** RUSSIA. 18575, May 16 at 1246, no signal from Mazielka tones, reported to be
from MFA Moskva, 24 hours after my first log (as UNIDENTIFIED); not surprising,
since it does not operate on a daily-repeat schedule. My post of this on the
UDXF yg got some informative responses. As I was saying,
So what does Mazielka mean? Google translate gets no closer than mazilka which
means dauber. That is, from Russian. It takes a while, but G.t. eventually
suggests a Cyrillic ``did you mean?`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
Hi, "Mazielka" was originally -in some intelligence communities- the nickname
for this selcall system. I doubt that it actually means something. It has been
around for a long time. See also the X06 Project docs on our website
http://www.udxf.nl/ute-info.html
73, (Ary Boender, UDXF yg via DXLD) i.e., the X06 links at the left
Hi Glenn, Great that you caught a Mazielka! There is a small group of us
chasing Mazielka signals and you may find the attached notes give a little more
detail. Although the signals appear to be random they do follow a pattern and
in the last 3 years we have logged over 1400 transmissions of which 800 were
"scheduled". In fact the one you caught was the 800th!! I hope that the
attached notes will prove interesting; these were in fact published last week
on the UDXF site. Regards, Peter, X06 Team, ibid.)
I measure and report the tones as I always have done - in USB mode, zero beat
on the AM carrier, offset from the carrier point. Clearly from observation,
either the AM transmitters used vary on frequency, or the equipment used to
send the tones does. —mco (Mike Chace-Ortiz, ibid.)
** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020-, May 16 at 1145, very poor carrier here on lo side of
channel, as compared to 1020 KOKP, no doubt SIBC. So I`m back at 1156 to catch
its cutoff, which chops at 1159:07*. I don`t see reports of 9545 any more
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SOUTH CAROLINA [and non]. 9690, May 16 at 1302 via WRMI, medley of Brother
Scare clips, 1303 back to his unID substitute. On Thursday night, I asked Jeff
White,
``TOM coup? Hi Jeff, I guess you are busy at NASB/GB, but I wonder what`s going
on with TOM? Last week or more, someone else is doing most of the talking and
we only hear BS on recorded contact announcements every half hour or more. And
the other guy never seems to identify himself. Is BS ailing or even defunct?
Back in jail? 73, Glenn``
``I don't think there's any problem. I know our facility manager spoke with him
a day or two ago, and he seemed to be fine. Greetings from the NASB meeting at
IBB Greenville -- quite a place! Jeff`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 11905, May 16 at 0115, SLBC opening music, very poor signal but
enough to track the mistimesignal until 0115:17.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** TIBET [non]. 18990, May 16 at 1243 JBA signal with CCI, fast SAH, and //
CNR1 on 18870 which is much stronger.
18980, May 16 at 1349, CNR1 jammer, very poor with flutter, // 11785
These match the Friday (and Tuesday) usage of RFA Tibetan via KUWAIT: 12-13 on
18990, 13-14 on 18980, per Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 18097.5, May 15 at 2020, an extremely slow CW transmission, long
pauses between letters and even longer between words, so I have no trouble
copying part of it (I`ll spare you the all-caps):
``An extract from your station log --- to the FCC --- operator and station
licenses were two different things so you could renew your --- end of 5 WPM
text``.
No doubt it`s W1AW at ARRL HQ in CT, with ``slow`` code practice at 4 pm ET
Tuesdays & Thursdays per
http://www.arrl.org/code-practice-qst-source
http://www.arrl.org/w1aw-operating-schedule
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. 11995, May 16 at 0524, interview in English about Syria catches
my ear, but often interrupted by voice-overs in Kurdish, confirmed language at
0529 with ``Denge`` and ``Washington`` confirming it`s VOA, along with 0530 VOA
jingles. HFCC shows at 05-06 it`s via SMG VATICAN, i.e. another violation of
SoChaS. Fair signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1721 monitoring: confirmed on WTWW-1, 9475, Thursday
May 15 at 2100 (not almost 2101 this time, I think), but signal is noticeably
weaker than 9930; must be running low-powered at the moment, altho not so
later.
Another no-show for our only scheduled time on WWRB. I was hopeful, since 5050
was active earlier in evening, May 16 at 0103, along with 9370, not 3185. At
0327 approx., preacher stops on 5050, as if WOR were imminent after the usual
pause, but instead circa 0328.4 another preacher starts, and continues until
suddenly off the air at 0343*. Meanwhile, the webcast continued, but still at
very low audio level.
Next: Saturday 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio, 7265-CUSB
Saturday 2330 on WTWW, 9930
UT Sunday 0030 on WRMI, 9495 (may be previous edition)
UT Sunday 0401 on WTWW, 5830
UT Monday 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9930 // 12105 BS, 9475 SFAW, May 15 at 2028, finally all three WTWW
transmitters are back on the air at once! Still the same at 0059 UT May 16. At
0519, 5085 has replaced 9930 (presumably circa 0200), and at 0523, 12105 is
unheard.
9475, 9930 and 12105, are all on at 1304 May 16, the first two presumably
having just moved up from 5 MHz, as 9475 Australia was still clear at 1300
hourtop. For a while, the `day` frequencies had been starting at 1400, which is
really too late to be running on 5 MHz band in the sprummer. Except for 12105
duplicating TOM on 9930, sked now seems back to normal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5110-, May 16 at 0103, no signal from WBCQ, which has usually been
active during this Tue-Fri hour the past few weeks, with AWWW replays. At 0455
check, but not after 0500, I do get a weak CUSB signal on 5110-, in keeping
with the new schedule of GFRN at 0200-0500 Tue-Sat only (but earlier on
weekends with Area 51) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 690, UT Friday May 16 at 0501 UT, KGGF Coffeyville KS is playing the
Marine Hymn, in its rotating patriotic music sign-off, and as always followed
at 0502 UT by Taps (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1110, UT Friday May 16 at 0128 UT, KFAB is sufficiently nullable to
hear something in English, but S Asian accent, inviting requests to be called
in for next show; says he will be back tomorrow morning, and then Tuesday
night, bit of S Asian music. Deep fades; 0130 UT canned ID in English as ``----
Radio, KVTT, 11-10 AM, Mineral Wells-Dallas-Fort Worth``, and more S Asian
vocal music. Radio-locator.com shows slogan as ``FunAsia Radio``. Wikipedia
link to program schedule shows different hosts at those times:
http://www.funasia.net/radio.php?radio_id=1
And includes, Hindu, Moslem, Christian shows; for Indians, Pakistanis,
Bangladeshis and Nepalis (at least).
Official KVTT sunset in May is 0130 UT (June & July: 0145), but unaware of
this, I did not note any abrupt disappearance. 50 kW day pattern
http://transition.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/1390900-111898.pdf
shows major lobe to the SE, secondary to the SSW and tertiary to the NW.
However now it would be on 39 kW for Critical Hours, pattern:
http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KVTT&service=AM&status=L&hours=C
Licensee is Texoma Broadcasting, and it does reach into southern OK (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1220, May 16 at 1201 UT, local news of a fatality on ``K-68 near
Ottawa``, so it`s KOFO Ottawa KS, 250/40/47 watts U1. Remnant of skywave
remains on the upper band; today`s Enid sunrise 1124 UT, with about 10 minutes
to go for earliest in about 3 weeks (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1470, May 16 at 1206 UT, promo for Newstalk 14-70, KYYW; for weather
see kyyw.com and then hour three of Bill Bennett`s `Morning in America` with
guest host Mark Davis. Abilene TX before skywave fades out (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)
