Canada, 6070, CFRX (CFRB), 1000-1030, This is about
the only comfortable
listening station on the band this morning. With
hardly any fading, noted
talk radio format with a bunch of commericals every
five minutes or less. Plenty
of ID's at the end of the TC, "... CFRB 1010 talk
radio...". Signal was good.

Indonesia, 9525, Voice of Indonesia, 1045-1100 Noted a weak signal
here with music and comments from a female. Lot's of noise on the
band, but bearable. Signal was poor.
(Chuck Bolland, March 9, 2009)

Indonesia, 9680, RRI Jakarta, 1055-1100, With steady Islamic type
music at tune in. Signal is poor with the usual noise. At 1100 UTC,
Taiwan pops up on the same freq blocking everything. Normally,
this would not be a problem, but Taiwan is being relayed via
Okeechobee,
Florida's WYFR transmitters, I surmise? Thus, my QTH is only about 20
miles away as the crow flies, so the freq is blocked. (Chuck Bolland,
March 9, 2009)

Four megs (4700 to 5100) at my location is almost nil. I can hear WWV
on 5.000 KHz
and Radio Rebelde on 5025 and the other USA stations above, but
anything else is
nil heard. That is not just now (1100 UTC) but all morning from 0900
UTC. I am
wondering if it's just my antennae or the conditions? Any feedback
would be greatly
appriciated.

Hi Mike!

Now yours is a very familiar name from days past! :-)

It's just that my operation is under a little more scrutiny and I had to
apply for NATO licenses for the SATCOM gear I'm using for the internet and
they do tend to snoop and poop, otherwise I would have brought it all,
especially since I'm here for a bit.

GULP! You mean we were supposed to have permission before we brought
Comm gear into a, shall we say, restricted region? Check with your Comm
guys, I'm sure they'll let you play with some of their gear.

Listings are somewhat incomplete, but I am pretty sure at 1100 RTI on 9680 is
direct from Taiwan, not via WYFR. And of course with the Chicom jamming too,
which you were more likely hearing. WYFR finishes its own 9680 transmissions at
1045. Glenn Hauser

Hi, I guess that is the NDB (non-directional beacon) "BM" on Batam Island,
Indonesia, very close to Singapore. Its carrier frequency is 370 kHz so you
would hear its morse ID on 369. The letters BM are hard to distinguish from TSM
in morse code.

Check out the NDB database at http://www.classaxe.com/dx/ndb/rww/

NDB are used in aircraft navigation, although this method of direction finding
is a bit antiquated and not too precise. Better methods are available, but a
lot of NDBs are still active, probably as a backup, and continue to serve as
one possible field of DXing, mostly between 200 and 530 kHz.
