Dear shortwave radio users.

Our hobby, way of life and maybe career is still under a real and present
threat as the PLT industry continues to lobby hard to have shortwave turned
over to them for their home networking products!

Please visit the UK's primary 'fight back' web site, check out the news and
update pages and maybe join the Yahoo forum.
www.mikeandsniffy.co.uk/ukqrm

We can't ignore this threat, CISPR are considering changing the standards in
favour of PLT! (Power Line Transmissions)because by and large shortwave
listeners don't have much of a voice we are in great danger of being ignored
while the ham radio community are already getting some concessions with
'notches' (albeit poor and ineffective)

To start with I need to know how many shortwave listeners there are in the UK?
So please if you are a SWL and based in the UK please mail me so I can count up
how many of us need defending.

Your hobby in your hands fight for it or lose it

Regards

Mike

Dear SWL

If you live in the UK and listen to shortwave radio broadcast bands then you
need to consider this!

The Power line transmission lobby is both wealthy and powerful and is currently
trying to get shortwave turned over to them for their home networking products.
If this happens then our hobby will be lost to us.

I am sure most of you know about UKQRM and its fight to save shortwave radio.

I am conducting a simple survey to find out just how many UK listeners we have.
Based on the result we will know if this fight is winnable.

So take a moment and fill in this survey for us all please.

http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=uwd04795hyu6djh567613

You must be in the UK and listen to broadcast bands.

Utility only does not count, of course you will lose this as well if PLT is
given free reign of shortwave.

Don't delay answer today, you have until 2nd April to answer after that the
survey will be closed.

Thanks

Mike

Bolivia, 4716.73, Radio Yura, 1020-1030 At tune in, heard local type music
mainly using flute and drum. At 1022 a female Spanish language comments,
just briefly, then back to music. I haven't heard this station for a month
or so due to the local noise I am experiencing here at my location. This
morning the signal was poor. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Bolivia, 4796.25, Radio Mallku, (pres), 1029-1045 Again at tune in, noted
music just for a minute. This was followed by a male and female in Spanish
Language comments. They continued to converse for the period. The signal
never improved beyond poor however. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Peru, 4774.97, Radio Tarma,(pres),1033-1045, I can just hear music under the
CODAR and noise. At 1034 noted a canned ID by a male. This happened during
the music too. Signal was threshold.
(Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Peru, 4826.40, Radio Sicuani, 1040-1050 Heard a male in Spanish language
comments at tune in. At 1042 a series of canned ADs presented. These
continue for a substantial period. Live talk
after the ADs again. Signal was fair but at 1050 splatter contributes to
the signal getting worst. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Peru, 4955, Radio Cultural Amauta, 1053-1100, Noted typical Peruvian folk
music for a minute or two, then a male talks in Spanish with mentions of
"Peru". Back to music at 1057. On the hour noted the tune "El Condor Paso"
with comments from a female. Signal was poor.(Chuck Bolland, March 24,
2009)

Peru, 5039.17, Radio Libertad, 1103-1115, Noted two males in Spanish
language comments at tune in. This was followed with Huaynos music. Signal
was fair. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Philippines, 9615, Radio Veritas, 1116-1130, Noted a male and female in
Mandarin language comments with instrumental background music. After a few
more comments, steady music is presented. Signal was at a fair level with
some flutter noted. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Papua New Guinea, 3385, Radio East New Britian, 1123-1130
With a few brief comments from a male, typical local music was presented
afterwards. Signal was fair. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)

Papua New Guinea, 3905.06, Radio New Ireland, (pres), 1130-1140, Noted a
female in comments. I have Pidgin listed. Some music noted but mainly
comments until 1133 when just music. Signal was "bobbing" up and down into
the noise, but overall was poor. (Chuck Bolland, March 24, 2009)
