I used mostly LaTeX over 10 years ago for my Ph.D. thesis and for scientific papers. It is excellent for typesetting equations and making schematic drawings of things and so it seems well-suited for your purpose. It is a little different in that it is not WYSIWYG (like Word, etc.). However, I l

Both the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and American Mathematical Society (AMS) prefer (require?) that papers be submitted in LaTeX format. I am especially interested in typesetting equations (particularly logical symbols) and diagrams of automata, trees, graphs, and the like. === Greg
