Now you have made my whole week/month. I have been
stewing about this problem for about 2 weeks. And you
helped me in 2 hours. Fantastic!
The problem was fixed by deleting all file references
in katerc.

I have been primarily using the editor "kate", and
have come to like it. But recently it has started
crashing every time I run it. It flashes a message
"the specified directory doesn't exits" and then the
crash-guard dialog pops
