I went back in with fileman and tried to edit the file
that way, and got the same "can't edit" error when
trying to change .01 field in file 8989.3
I wonder why they set it up that way.
In Nancy's install script, she directs one to do the
sort of direct setting
File 8989.3, field .01 is a DINUM'ed field (the input transform is in fact
S DINUM=1). DINUM'ed fields may not be edited. The reason for this is that
most DINUM'ed fields are of the form S DINUM=X, and since X is the value in
the .01 field, any change in X would change the subscript ... and it's

DINUM is a variable that when you set it tells FileMan to use that
number as the IEN/record #/NUMBER/.001 field. DINUM is mostly used when
a record is to be added to a file who's .01 field Points To another file
so the IENs are kept in sync. With each other. A good example is the:
RAD/NUC
A DINUM'd field is one that ensures that the internal entry number (IEN) for the global node is identical to the .01 field of the data node. Hope this makes sense.
