Mepis is OK. I bought a copy last year, but I have found I really
prefered the Gnome interface to KDE, so don't use it much.
Mostly Ubuntu these days or Fedora Core 4 for desktop replacement.
Mandriva 10.xx or Suse 9.3 for full-blown Linux..
any one heard of mepis linux ? went to the web

It retailed for $1,559, but I found a 40% off coupon so the laptop+shipping
was $912. Not too bad!

Hopefully he got the 3 year warranty. The standard warranty on the
Inspiron line is 90 days IIRC.
