I was surprised to find that a system this old would let me use a bootable cd-rom, but it did and I am now installing. It wanted to install to c:\windows.000 but I didn't let it do that, I just changed it to c:\windows. If that was wrong, then I guess it was a sign that I just needed to go ahead
Ok, deleted, tried the install and it still detects Windows and will not let me "upgrade". So, I shut down, rebooted and Windows won't come up as Win.com is missing. Do I need to boot with a floppy so that I can access the cd to do the install?

Ok, let me confirm: delete C:\windows\win.com file, then put in the OEM cd of 98 and go?
Want to make sure I am understanding the info. I really do appreciate all of this help!

Could be the metric or routing issue then, dumping the routing tables

So they have a 98 machine on a live IP & no router/firewall? This is
just stupid.

Thanks. Would it be possible to do a "parallel" install and then I could pull the drivers that 98 needed, and then wipe the old 95 directory?

I found this (listed below). Would it get me to 98, or would Windows keep "seeing" the old Windows and tell me I need an upgrade package instead of a full install package?
How to do it :
Windows ME/98/95
You boot up with a Windows ME/98/95 boot disk into MSDOS mode and type the following comma
I know, you are already scratching your head wondering if I am insane. Am doing a little job for a friend of mine. He has an old Packard Bell (I know, I know), an Intel (ditto, ditto) 233, and only 24 megs of ram. He has a body shop. To mix the paints he needs for all the different makes, models,
