Slipstreaming over RTM will yield no difference vs a later source. Stupid that
the SP1 restriction is there to scare the masses when performing a manual
update on a live system.

The most comprehensive, exhaustive, slipstreaming guide on the internets for
slipstreaming the latest service pack on to any version of XP. SP1, SP2, RTM,
OEM, VLK, Retail, whatever.
Note: Be careful, this is very lengthy.
1. Copy your CD to a directory [ "c:\xpcd" for example]
2. Acquire SP3

There are many web tutorials out there explaining the slipstreaming
process - which would you recommend.

for you, and allows you to configure, and tweak a lot of useful
stuff... and it is free.
not sure about slipstreaming but the copy of sp3 I have will only install over
sp1 or newer

I have a Dell Inspiron that came with Dell's Reinstallation CD for Windows
XP Home (not even SP1, just plain XP). I'd like to use this disk as the
basis for a slipstreamed XP Home SP2 or SP3 installation and repair CD for

I've used this one on several occasions.
However, it does not recover the password, only allows for a reset.
Not all the versions listed on the web site works properly, so you'll have to
figure out which does.
