I had a PC I rebuilt that had that same error. I also thought it was
a modem of some sort but never did find a driver for it on the
manufacturer's web site...
It ran fine for years with that device never being properly
defined. :)

It might be that you'll have to install the chipset drivers.

I got this brand new Laptop T400 Lenovo which came with Vista and I re
partitioned to one drive and installed XP Pro. Everything works fine Except one
device "PCI simple Communications Controller". I cannot find a driver for the
life on me. Lenovo was no help (custom install). The device ID tell
PCI card with IDE controller on it.
Have a couple round here somewhere, I hardly ever throw anything away. Should
see my CPU collection, saving for gold extraction someday 8-)

Rick,
I read your last two shares many times; and then just stewed for a bit. No
grumble, I agree with your logic completely. And, I understand all the
legacy issues in the eide system related to OS business. Here, I only use
W2Kpro or WinXPpro; and both w/NTFS filing systems.
I do accept tha
I agreed...
I listed three things and said to stay under 120G to avoid them all...
Then listed the one (the OS) most likely to be a problem.

What "plug in controller" do you mean?

j,
Thanks. And what I thought. I was about to get out my retired Promise
Ultra133-tx2, but I ran into a glitch about driver version vs. the "fresh,
new" bios on the card. Another projectanother floppy.. LOL!
As soon as I finish the takedown, I'll offer the pieces to a good
home
