I have a friend who has his PC setup for his business using two Western Digital 20 GB drives in a RAID 1 mirrored array. One of the drives has failed and he needs to replace it. I told him that it would be best to replace it with the same model drive. He is using the Intel SATA RAID onboard an Abit AI7 mobo. What is the proceedure for replacing the crashed drive? Should the new drive be formatted prior to plugging it in where the old drive was? Will the RAID controller prompt for recreating the RAID volume automatically or will he need to do something in the BIOS RAID settings?
