But guess what? Even in SafeMode, I do not get to 'Show Hidden Devices.
I googled for over 2 hours this am and found this:

That reg file is the exact type-in I did to start the process.
Right out of Article ID 269155, 2/28/07, rev 3.3. :)
Long/short, I managed to find the ghost and kill it. When I
rebooted and shutdown perhaps the registry finally got washed.
Installed the new nic, and XP installed
How does one remove an old device from the device mangler in XP.
I have a bunch of nic card remnants that I can disable but not
uninstall. The machine has no nic card installed yet!
XP keeps stopping me with some msg about this device may be needed
to boot the machine.
Stumped I am? Where did
