Project Archivist Position at College of Charleston Library
Title Jewish Heritage Collection (JHC) Project Archivist Minimum Requirements Master's degree and archival experience. Graduate work in one of the following areas preferred: archival administration, public history, or Jewish history, culture, or art. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. Must possess a demonstrated ability to think analytically and write clearly and concisely. Familiarity with southern Jewish history, with a focus on South Carolina, would be advantageous. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requires knowledge of standard archival practices and procedures, metadata creation, digitization processes, and HTML and XML encoding. Must have excellent computers skills and be able to process collections to various levels of access with speed and accuracy. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds is essential. Training and management skills are necessary, in order to teach archival techniques to student assistants and volunteers. Must be able to plan and supervise multiple projects simultaneously. Reading skills in Hebrew, Yiddish, and modern European languages a plus. Job Duties Assists in training and supervising student assistants, part-time employees, and volunteers. Monitors the progress of their work. Evaluates, edits, and suggests revisions of finding aids, metadata, and digitization efforts. Helps to create and assign metadata for manuscript collections, artifacts, and oral histories. Assists in inputting digital files and metadata into CONTENTdm. Effectively utilizes controlled vocabularies for multiple formats. Works with staff of the Lowcountry Digital Library on selected collections. Responsible for the arrangement and description of the Jewish Heritage Collection's backlog, following the standards of the College and the Society of American Archivists. Plans and prioritizes workflow. Helps to create and edit EAD finding aids. Salary $30,274-$40,000 This position is funded by other than State monies and continuation of this position is contingent upon availability of these funds.
