Community Center/Community Librarians,

I need your help! Faced with budget cuts I have been asked to
research comparable libraries to my own. I am meeting with my
executive board on Friday May 1and need to have this info by then.

We are a community library, funded by the Federation, housed in the
JCC. We have been open in our new space for two years.
The highlights of what we do/have:
· a monthly daytime adult book group,
· a monthly Holocaust book group
· a monthly International film group
· starting a monthly evening book group in May
· 10,000 item collection
· large DVD collection (they circulate more than the books)
· Circulate 220+ items a month
· have issued 500+ patron cards
· active Advisory board
· 55+ Friends of the Library
· Occasional children's programs
· Community Read
· One or two author lectures during the year
· Co-sponsor the Book Fair with the JCC (at no cost to us)
· Are open Sunday – Thursday from 10am – 2pm

My questions to other libraries similar to mine:
· How does our usage compare?
· How are you funded (Federation/JCC/other)?
· Are you part of e.g. the Bureau of Education ?
· What programs do you have?
· Do you do your own fundraising?
· How do you market your library?

I would really, really appreciate responses and if there is a need
perhaps all community librarians can identify themselves and we can
form our own group or at least be aware of each other. Some of us
met together in Cleveland (Lynn Feinman/92nd Street Y, Francine
Menken/JCC of Metropolitan Detroit and Marlene Reynolds) and there
were a couple of others. Unfortunately I will not be in Chicago this
year (budget cuts).
Please reply off-list.

Thank you in advance.
Joan
