I am pleased to announce the publication of the first two volumes of this major new reference work published by De Gruyter. EBR is an innovative reference tool for Biblical Studies, that offers a comprehensive and in-depth rendering of the current state of knowledge on the origins and development of the Bible according to its different canonic forms in Judaism and Christianity. At the same time, EBR also documents the history of the Bible's reception in Judaism and Christianity as evident in exegetical literature, theological and philosophical writings of various genres, literature, liturgy, music, the visual arts, dance, and film, as well as in Islam and other religious traditions and contemporary movements." I am privileged to serve as main editor for Judaism on the editorial board of this project and can assure you that every effort has been made to produce a work of the highest quality. For Judaism, it contains information on the role of the Bible in the thought and work of philosophers, authors, musicians and artists, that cannot be found in other reference works. This is a pioneering longterm project which will span 30 vols. upon completion. It is completely ecumenical in nature, with no religious outlook or point-of-view being privileged over any other. It is being published in both print and online versions. Suitable for academic libraries and any library interested in Biblical Studies and the role the Bible has played in the thought and culture of western civilization.
