Documenting the Middle East: A Look at Photograph Collections
In the United States

Thursday, August 3, at 12 noon

Whittall Pavilion, ground floor, Thomas Jefferson Building,
Library of Congress

The rich Middle East photograph collections found in U.S. libraries
and archives can promote a deeper understanding of the region's
diverse peoples, religions, and cultures. Where are these collections
located and how were they acquired? Who were the photographers and
what influenced their work? How is access provided to these
collections? How are the collections used and what can we learn from
them? During this illustrated presentation, speakers from a number of
repositories will address these questions while showing examples from
their institutions' collections. A bibliography of selected
institutions with Middle East photograph collections will be provided.

The speakers are:

Robert Burton, Mellon Project Cataloger for Photographs, Harvard
University Library,
Weissman Preservation Center: Historical Overview
