Hi,
In response to the request for material for learning modern
Hebrew, here are some suggestions.

It is difficult to learn modern Hebrew only from a book. One
good choice, however, is the series by Ora Band published by Behrman
House entitled Hebrew Langugage Course. There are 3 levels, Shlav 1,
2 and 3. The isbn of Ivrit Shalav alef is 0874413311. It was made
for/at the Los Angeles Hebrew High School.

A CD for computer that I can highly recommend is Modern Hebrew by
Davka. Each lesson has a story/conversation that can be listened to
in its entirety, line by line or word by word. Words are clearly
enunciated and spoken a bit slower, especially during the earlier
lessons, than other programs that immitate modern speech. Each
lesson has a vocabulary, grammar, and culture component. It's quite
good. (My husband has used it.)

A new DVD from Hebrew World is called Welcome! to Hebrew on
DVD. It comes with a book and several other items. I have not
previewed it yet. We have all in the store where I work, Tree of
LIfe Judaica and Books.
