Rawia Aburabia, a member of Israel*s Bedouin community, received her
undergraduate degree from the Charlotte B. and Jack J. Spitzer
Department of Social Work at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in
2003. Now an attorney, Rawia is currently studying for her Master of Law
degree in international legal studies from American University. Rawia is
in Washington, D.C. for the year as a New Israel Fund Fellow. She is a
human rights activist in Israel and specifically deals with issues
related to the female Bedouin community.
Rawia*s father, Dr. Unis Aburabia, opened the first medical clinic
for Bedouins in the town of Rahat, outside of Beer-Sheva. Rawia*s
sister Saraab, also a BGU alumna, is the first female Ph.D. from the
Bedouin community.
