I remember this picture book from way back, maybe 1970's? I seem
to recall it was by Marilyn Hirsh.

Hi Diane,
Where is Yonkela was written by Marilyn Hirsh, of blessed memory, and
was based on a family story about her father when he was a baby in
the Old Country. You were spelling "Yonkela" incorrectly, which is
why the problem. I checked www.abebooks.com and found copies ranging
from $63 t

I am looking for a book entitled, "Where is Yankela?" I've been
unable to pull it up on various library databases. Does anyone have
any information on this book, its author, and where it may be purchased?
