"Speaking and writing have one major feature in common: the words
that one communicates
take on a life of their own…"
- W. Gunther Plaut

W. Gunther Plaut is an internationally acclaimed rabbi, scholar, and
one of the great preachers of the twentieth century. Published on
the occasion of his 95th birthday, the sermons in One Voice are as
timely and meaningful today as they were when first delivered.
Containing Rabbi Plaut's personal reflections on a variety of topics,
the sermonsdelivered over a span of 40 yearsinclude discussions on
religion, faith, and God; ethics and values; being a Jew, Reform
Judaism, and Israel; and old age, generation, and death. W. Gunther
Plaut would hold his audiences spellbound with his charisma, charm,
and wit. One Voice is a fitting tribute to the wisdom and vitality of
this towering spiritual leader.

W. Gunther Plaut was born in Germany, and in 1935 fled the Nazis for
the United States where he became a rabbi. During World War II, he
joined the American Army, served as infantry chaplain, was decorated
with the Bronze Star, and was present at the capture of the first
concentration camp in Germany. After the war, he served as a rabbi in
Chicago and St. Paul, and, from 1961 to 1977, was Senior Rabbi of
Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto. Upon his retirement, he was
appointed Senior Scholar. He has been President of the Canadian
Jewish Congress and the Central Conference of American Rabbis. From
1978 to 1985 he served as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Human Rights
Commission. Rabbi Plaut has been awarded 19 honorary degrees and is a
Companion of the Order of Canada. He has published 25 books,
including his magnum opus, The Torah: A Modern Commentary.

Jonathan V. Plaut, Editor, is the spiritual leader of Temple Beth
Israel in Jackson, Michigan. Prior to this, he led Congregation Beth
El in Traverse City, Michigan, where he is now Rabbi Emeritus. He is
the author of the recently published The Jews of Windsor 1790-1990: A
Historical Chronicle.
