If they are still of value, why do you want to get rid of them? How old is old? In what sort of condition are they? Perhaps you want to selectively "weed" the collection, particularly for old textbooks which may in fact have dated information and for books in poor condition for which more recent editions can be purchased. Some of the older material you may want to keep but consider putting into more protective housings (acid-neutral boxes?) and storing them in a closed stack area.
