The American Jewish Historical Society seeks a part-time (8-10 hours per week) cataloger for its New York City headquarters at the Center for Jewish History. The American Jewish Historical Society is the oldest national ethnic historical organization in the United States. The Society's library, archives, photograph, and art and artifacts collections document the American Jewish experience. The American Jewish Historical Society was founded in 1892 for the purpose of collecting, preserving, and disseminating sources for the study of American Jewish history. QUALIFICATIONS: An MLS from an ALA accredited institution, along with a minimum of one year cataloging experience, is required for this position. Experience using ExLibris' Aleph system or another automated library system is highly desirable as is a working knowledge of AACR2, OCLC, and Library of Congress classification and subject headings. This position requires the ability to work independently and focus on the task at hand, as well as work well with a team. Candidate should be a self-starter and have excellent computer and communication skills. DUTIES: Catalog English print materials using OCLC and Ex-Libris' Aleph 500 integrated library system. Perform copy and original cataloging using Marc 21 standards and Library of Congress Subject headings and classification. Process library materials in preparation for shelving. Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
