A researcher who some of you helped last month in identifying books
to read for general background information (thanks to all who
responded) for a novel she is writing, has another, more specific
question. The date would be c1900:

<< I need to know what kind of repercussions would occur if a young
Jewish widow in the shtetl had an affair with a Russian
officer. Would there be dramatic rabbinic penalties or just the
censure of her neighbors, or what???? >>

If you have any thoughts, please contact her directly:

Thank you very much.
